We were in Sri Lanka when the tsunami hit the coast in 2004. We went back to our hotel a few months later and found some of our belongings in the rubble. Then we went back a year later, for the anniversary, this time travelling more around the island, discovering all of its beauty.
Kim and Tristan Peatfield, who stayed in the same hotel as us in December 2004, lost their 5 year old daughter, Isabella, in the tsunami. A year later they set up The Isabella Peatfield Memorial Fund, to help children of Sri Lanka whose lives were devastated by the aftermath of the tsunami. The charity today continues to be dedicated to improving the lives of children in Sri Lanka.
